Chef knife question

I will be attempting my first chefs knife soon and after perusing the forums and stickies I've still got one question for those of you who have made astounding chefs knives. When forging the knife how close do you forge to the final thickness? I will be using a very basic 1090 steel for my first try at this my final thickness I am aiming for is around 1/8.

We pretty well covered the thickness before heat treat in the knife making lessons....and I will add that if you wish a final blade thickness of 1/8",,,start with metal that thick..Working chefs knves take some planning and experience,,,,make some use them  then make more,,,,
