Lodestone25
Does anyone have any tips on how to forge cups or saucers to hold candles on a chandelier? I dont have any specialized tools, so a way to do with with just a forge, anvil, a variety of hammers (ball, straight peen, etc), and a post vice would be much appreciated. What kind of stock is best to start out with? I've been trying to figure this one out for a couple weeks now and im at a loss. any tips would be much appreciated! Thank you, Lodestone
Larry H
you can make cups from pipe, I usually cut the pans out then dish them over a ring made from a 3/4 round bar with my rounding hammer....( a guillotine tool makes it easier and faster than a straight peen, for the cups )
Glenn
Get a set of bearing races, place the sheet metal between the races and squeeze it in a vise. Makes a candle pan with a rim.
DanBrassaw
You can dish into the top of a stump, it works well. For the portion that holds the candle, making them out of pipe is pretty easy, you'll just have to make a spring fuller to neck it down, then flare the rim of the cup on the horn. The Backyard Blacksmith book has a great how-to on that method.
