Chris Covington
Is is feasible to achieve certain temper colors by using a household oven? For instance, if I want my wizard bottle opener to be a nice shade of blue can I achieve a nice even blue hue using my kitchen oven?
David Gaddis
Perhaps...but easily attainable is the gold-straw colors. Problems occur when small amounts of oilly residue end up on the piece and the oven heats that funky oil. Result may be you are to buy that new house sooner that expected. Consider a toaster oven from Wally World and put in the shop.
bigfootnampa
You can get the temper colors that way... they are not durable though.
Chris Covington
if you quench it and then spray with laquer it should stay right?
bigfootnampa
For a little while. Maybe... because the lacquer may change the color immediately! These colors are very thin oxides and are usually what artist's refer to as "ephemeral"! Like the colors of a fresh caught grayling... they shimmer with beauty... and then fade! Some things cannot be captured and admired at leisure! You have to be there "in the moment"!

Jim Coke
Greetings, Sounds like a small opener... You can put a 2in pipe in your forge ...thick wall... heat it up cherry ... slide in your part.... wait for color....quench. and finish...I suggest if you finish with spray enamal or lacquer.. only put a dusting on first AKA tack coat...wait to dry... Good luck Jim
