Post vise jaw alignment

I have had to fight that too. It really helped to replace that awful pivot bolt. When I replaced that with a regular through bolt and locking nut it tightened up the jaws some. One was still pushed off to the side a tad (1/8th inch or better) and so I took a long heavy sledge hammer to it and it did move.

 

I see this quite a bit in this style of vise. It must be normal and from what I see in visiting shops, folks don't worry about it. It does bother me to no end as it isn't "right" and wish I could have taken a picture of the last one I saw. It was so bad............
