August 10, 201213 yr Large fly press for sale, but haven't seen one like it before. Anyon know the make or model? The leadscrew is a finer pitch than most, if not all, fly presses I've seen. Of course you'd get more of a pinching effect vs a slamming effect of the ram. I'm not sure yet if this is a double thread screw or not. Would this still be a useable press for blacksmithing work with that fine of pitch?
August 10, 201213 yr That is a screw press, and should be a single lead screw. It is comparable to a hydraulic press used for pushing bearings out. It probably generates good tonnage, but relatively slow. It has utility if you can get it for the right price, and have space, but it is NOT a fly press. It may be useful for limited hot work, but will be better for cold work if you were to get it. Phil
August 11, 201213 yr As Phil said way too slow for blacksmith work. You will not like it if you have ever used a fly press.
