John McPherson
What's in a name? Don't ask for ID. She's a keeper! I'm pretty sure she is over 18, take her home and put her to work. And the name or lack of one should make no real difference to anyone but a seller trying to jack up a price to a collector, or a hoarder (who just *thinks* that they are a collector ). AinA has spawned more internet discussion than OJ's trial. Seriously, that is a great looking anvil, and I am sure you will get many years of enjoyment with it. And if it were mine, I would probably be asking the same question.
Shootfirst04
I agree I dont really care about the maker, i am just curious as to how old it might be. I got it for a great price 2 bucks a pound. Its my first real anvil so im pleased.

rapula
Very likely an Arm & Hammer anvil
Shootfirst04
Im very new at blacksmithing.... What would be the signs that it's an arm and hammer?
rapula
Rough forging marks underneath the heel, visible line of the face plate. The horn and overall shape is very much like an Arm & Hammer. I had several of these but now only own a 50lb and a 400lb
Shootfirst04
Ive seen pics of the arm and hammer but theres no markings like those ive seen on the arm and hammer although the overall shape looks almost identical. The bottom is flush with no depression and only has a square hole.
rapula
the weight would also be stamped on the offside of the Arm & Hammer Anvil, or front, not on the foot
Shootfirst04
Here are two more pics too help with the id of this anvil.....thanks to anybody who helps with this!
rapula
if you can, post a picture, showing the anvil from the side, with the horn on the right hand side, and another picture showing the underside of the heel of this anvil. Where is the number 156 stamped?
