July 13, 201214 yr Dodge; they certainly are. You just need to be careful not to open the taper lock too far with your wedge. They're cast & crack fairly easily if you do. And that can get embarrassing. ;)
July 19, 201214 yr Steve, A friend of mine, who lives nearby, has a Modern Power Hammer almost identical to yours. It is running and even has the indexed handle on top that allows for hammer force adjustment. If I remember correctly, the drive is on the left side as you would use the hammer. He has 240VAC single phase motor to drive it, but I didn't note the horsepower. I'll to get some pictures and more detailed informstion, but it would probably best for me to take you to his shop the next time you're in my area. Bob Stormer
November 1, 201213 yr I don't know how I missed the end of this thread before. Last I heard you were still setting it up. Anyway I love it.That drive pulley looks like the bottob of a little oxy cylinder or sumthing.
November 2, 201213 yr Author Yep. Oxy cylinder with a weld in sprocket center from Orschlen's. I make bells from the tops and have several bottoms left over. I need to make a smaller drive though. Running full out, the hammer hits 420 bpm. It starts dancing around when I really stand on it. Bob Stormer sent me a bunch of pictures of his friends near original Modern. I would guess there is about 250 lbs of various parts missing from mine. See ya Saturday.
