Weldon S
Hey guys, Since I signed up, I've built a nice forge, bought a couple of anvil's and several sets of tongs. I've done some work, but my blower rattles from time to time. I took it all appart except the gearbox, I removed the one screw I saw, but there seems to be a pin on the top of the gear box and I don't know how to remove it so I can get in, clean it up and re-grease it. Anyone know? FYI it's a buffalo. I'll put a pic up tonight if you think this would help. Weldon
ThomasPowers
Some of the blower gear boxes I am familiar with have an internal screw that the cover has to *slide* off---on the uphill side. I would try to tap on the cover lightly to see if it won't slide off. Of course a picture will help...
Weldon S
Tapped on that lip of the gear box, and it popped right off. Cleaned off the gears and the gear box, brushed them off with a wire brush on my dewalt drill. WD-40, then some lithium grease, tightened everything back down and put it back on the stand. Spins much better without all the rust and ash buildup. doesn't make that gosh awful shuddering noise anymore. I should be forging again soon! thanks Thomas.
