What is this, A bar cutter?

Anyone know if this tool is for cutting bar ?
If so, can it be used on hot or cold metal ?

The blade seems thin to use on cold metal and I don't want to ruin it if it is not meant to be used on hot metal.

I believe it is a cable cutter. not sure if for steel or copper.

Yep, cable cutter( .steel )
I would replace the jaws w/ jaws that you made and save the good ones for cable.
Then you could cut hot bar all day.

I have cut a gozillion cables with one of those things. Place the base on something really hard like dragline tracks with cable inserted to cutoff location ...Then swing a good heavy sledge like you were 19 years old...soon it will be severed. Wrap wire around each end's location is good idea...right before placing into cutter. Some use duct tape.
