Bigred1o1
yeah dont get me wrong Thomas i love big fires and one of the things i miss is being part of large bronze pores so i do hope to be around a place where people are forging anvils at some point in my life as it is on my bucket list
ThomasPowers
I have a suitable anvil to try a traditional re-face---it's an 1828 William Foster missing the heel and 90% of the face. I bought it for US$5 just for that last piece of 1828 steel---someone in Fur trade re-enactment will want a documented 1828 steel knife some day! Anyway once that piece is removed I want to try a traditional re-facing. (I'm the one that suggested that as a Demo for Quad-State and then *missed* that year, grrrrrr). I talked to Richard Postman about it and he suggested welding the face onto a wrought iron slab and doing a wrought iron to wrought iron weld to mount it on the anvil as WF's were not known for the quality of their WI! I'm working on building a propane welding forge that will handle the face and slab and have an old "RR Forge" that could handle the body now to get the crew together and make the time and $$$ for it.
