I Forge Iron

I am on vacation in Alaska. Today we are in Seward and we stop in a knife shop, I.R.B.I owned by Virgil Campbell. We start to talk and he asks me if I want to see his smithy. I say yes and back we go. Nice shop he has a 25LB and 50LB Little Giant, also a Batson press. All the bells and whistles for a knife smith. He then tells me I have hammer outside, want to see it? So we go outside and throws back a tarp and there is a 200 LB .Chambersburg utility hammer never run, a virgin. The Ram is still wrapped from the factory, the paint is aged but yet no ware on the guides or anywhere. It is all there except for the oilier. After gaining my speech capabilities I ask where did you find this? He tells me in Seward in a warehouse for a business, going out of business and headed for a scrap yard. I ask how much did you get it for? He tells me he traded it for 2 cable Damascus knifes. I have a lot of photos but do not have a way to up load till I get home. This is a really sweet hammer. Lucky man!

Yeah... those things happen.... And I think there have been quite a few new hammers like that around... Not that long ago, maybe 6 years, Michael Bondi had several 100lb utility hammers still new in the crate

My buddy bought a 100lb LG headed for the scrap yard for scrap price.Coal company owned it. Something like .10 cents a pound at the time. Some folks just get lucky sometimes..

Interesting. I will start looking. If I found this one maybe I can find one for myself.
