May 31, 201115 yr I just started getting into blacksmithing and while I could get a makeshift anvil by welding some forklift tines or a sledgehammer in a bucket I would prefer getting the real thing. I'm in Passaic County NJ and searching for the past 2 weeks turned up nothing decent nearby. Looking for something up to around 250 dollars. At least 75lbs preferably heavier. Craigslist and Ebay both turned up nothing reasonable as of yet. I have sent an email to someone I met at a blacksmithing class who may have one or know of someone who does but until he gets back to me I was wondering if anyone here had some hints of any nearby. That is 4 anvils in 40 minutes, The 153 and 165 in your price range. The 300 pound anvil for $350, is about 85 miles away from your location as best I can tell. You will just have to make that decision on your own. (grin)

May 31, 201115 yr Contact the New York State Designer Blacksmith Artists (another source for anvils) and ask one of the members to go with you to look at the anvil. Buy him lunch or something. Real time skill and expertise and a couple hours of intense blacksmithing talk on the way.
