Just came across a really lovely nail sample in the mastermyr find book, which is somewhere in the 10th or 11th century, and the nail is a spiral shank at the terminal end, fades to a round shaft at the head. The header block in the find is likewise made for round shanks. Apparently the Vikings went in for complex nails! (isbn 0 9650755 1 6, plate 23)

Eric I have had proplems with pics,,and every time the pic was too large and would not work or tell me why,,,,maybe resize tad smaller?
