dablacksmith
ya i have built a few ... i usually use a jack hammer bit that has broken .the bit has a shoulder built in forge so it fits hearty hole when you get close you can upset into hearty hole (keep turning 1/4 turn every few blows so it fits any direction in hole). from there forge blade part . profile on blade depends on what your cutting and how (hot or cold straight one side or even taper) i have found that if the profile is correct you dont have to harden it as usually it will get hot (for hot cut)and take the temper out anyway. on cold cut same tho its the mass that does the job . you will have to sharpen it occasionally as even if your careful you will mash the edge with the hammer (another reason not to harden). good luck! pkrankow
There are a number of different ways to do it, producing different styles of useful tools. Now I was also looking for a thread on making other hardy tools like forks, spring swages and the like, but I haven't found it. Phil
