zampilot
The anvil in question has a raised crest on the side, an oval with a smiths hammer and what looks like an anvil, cant see it clearly.
ThomasPowers
The raised Arm & Hammer in a raised Oval is the mark of a Vulcan.

ThomasPowers
They are quiet. They have a thin steel face and a cast iron body (vs Fishers that have a thick steel face and a cast iron body) and often seem to be tempered softer than many of the other types of anvils. The difference in height between horn and face is usually quite small. They were often used in schools and can be quite battered. They should go substantially cheaper than one of the top tier anvils but many sellers can't differentiate between a Rolls Royce anvil and a Yugo and so price at the RR level. Bentiron1946
Yes, they do tend to be priced way beyond their worth, a couple of months ago I saw one at a yard sale with a price tag of $200 and someone snapped it up without even dickering for it. It sure wasn't worth than much for the condition it was in but they were happier than a pig in slop. It wasn't even a that big of one either only like 60 or 70 pounds and all chipped and beat up something terrible. <_<
zampilot
An update to the ad says it's a Vulcan 180 lbs, Made in U.S.A. ! Pics blown up seem to show a delamination/bad chip under the plate at a corner opposite the horn, or maybe it's just a sloppy production or crummy camera. Maybe I'll stop by after work tomorrow with $150 in hand. Maybe not. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/gms/1833955389.html

Really thin plate maybe 3/16", was used mainly as a cutting table by the looks of the face of the plate. Tapped it with a hammer in several places, "thunk...", no rebound to speak of either. Priced at $295.
ThomasPowers
Well the "thunk" is right on for a Vulcan; sounds way overpriced for the condition though.
