June 30, 201015 yr You have a Hay Budden farrier pattern anvil, made in 1907. I'm no farrier so I can't tell you how the extra block on the horn was used, but I believe it is called a clip horn and is used for shaping shoes.
July 7, 201015 yr No; it's used in making horse shoes. Upsetting on the horn would not be a good thing! Upsetting blocks are usually at the *base* of the anvil if not on the floor!

July 8, 201015 yr Yes 3rd model HB has the solid tool steel top(from the waist up horn and all is one piece of tool steel) I have a 142lb smiths anvil same vintage. Great find. Ken.
