tjb Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 New person here , found a old anvil and it weighs 130# . Looking for a ID. Also, what is the extra u-shaped block on the horn used for ? Thanks for your time . Tom Quote
Sask Mark Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 You have a Hay Budden farrier pattern anvil, made in 1907. I'm no farrier so I can't tell you how the extra block on the horn was used, but I believe it is called a clip horn and is used for shaping shoes. Quote
Prokopto Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Is the extra bit on the horn perhaps an upsetting block? Quote
ThomasPowers Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 No; it's used in making horse shoes. Upsetting on the horn would not be a good thing! Upsetting blocks are usually at the *base* of the anvil if not on the floor! Quote

Thanks for your time . TomIt is a Haybadden Anvil. I use one identical to that one. It was made in Brooklyn N.Y. Great anvil. Quote
