    Drifting out the eyes to accept larger handles really helps to up their strength and usability for chopping.

    I tend to use old bull pins (structural steel alignment pins) as drifts as they are tough and cheap at the fleamarket and only use my much more expensive and softer hammer eye drift for the final go at it.
