ThomasPowers
What are you going to punch and chisel? Hot? Cold? Silver? Gold? For blacksmithing car spring is good; but for hard use items---slitters, deep punching: high alloy steels like H13 or S7 are suggested as they keep a lot of their hardness even when burred in hot steel. For heat treat it can be as simple as just normalizing for a tough tool or complex HT depending on alloy and intended use: Cold work punches and chisels are often heat treated harder than hot work ones. Jordan12
Thanks Thomas I want to make a punch and chisel for hot cutting and punching mild steel. The car springs come from a landrover defender. The spring is about a half inch (1,3)cm thick, but I think I have a thicker one Thanks Jordan
