I knew that the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island had a working smithy, because Ward Brinegar worked there for quite a while before settling in the Santa Fe area. I see that the museum offered a couple of weekend classes in April. http://www.stuhrmuseum.org/blacksmithclass.htm

I took a class at Loken Forge in Omaha at the Hot Shops just north of the Qwest Center. Very good and got me off to a decent start.

I don't have anything useful to add but I just HAD to see what a guy with your web handle had to say. Welcome aboard, glad to have ya. If you'll put your general location in your header you might discover guys living close who might have stuff you can use, be willing to help or whatever. Besides if one of us old farts is traveling in your area we won't have to rely on our memories if we want a snack or beverage. ;)
