poleframer
When my elderly neighbor passed a few years back I was given some of his tools, including this hammer. It's marked true temper, and 5 (lb). Havnt seen one like it before, I'd think it would be for lining up holes in steel beam construction.
pkrankow
Is the head or handle or both marked? Replacement handles are often branded, so markings on the handle may be no help. I have never seen anything like that before myself. Phil
poleframer
The markings are on the head, true temper, and a 5. I like it, I can get a good smack into a tight spot.
Stash
Might be a slater's hammer- the pointy end pokes a hole in the shingle, then use the other end to nail it in. Steve
Nakedanvil - Grant Sarver
Called a "top maul" or "spike maul" Sometimes "ship maul". Used by shipwrights to drive spikes, use the "pointy" end to bury the spike. I used to re-work them into "frying pan mauls" upset the face larger and very full like a mushroom (not really that extreme) for "smooth setting" spikes without tearing up the planking especially in decking. poleframer
Thankyou nakedanvil, I like to at least know the names of my tools!
Nakedanvil - Grant Sarver
Top maul is the most common name, spike maul is also used for a type of RR hammer.
