monstermetal
LA Little Giant wonder what the idea behind that mondo die is?
ThomasPowers
Make a lot more sense if they had a tool holder mounted on it. I think I'd want a larger hammer with all that flat die space myself.
nonjic
The top die looks like it might be domed in profile. With the large flat bottom die could this be to raise a bowl shape forging from plate ?
ThomasPowers
Could be that it was just new but I didn't notice any wear patterns on the lower die that would indicate that the upper die was differently shaped. Course we are just guessing with little data here anyway---must be Friday...
HWooldridge
I have seen several plowshare hammers that have a drawing die on the ram and a larger flat die in the sow. The piece is worked upside down so the forging marks are inside the share and the outside stays relatively smooth. I suspect this hammer is from that heritage.
