John B
Great day at the St Clems celebration, Thanks to all who made the effort and came along despite the atrocious weather, rain all day, and high winds also, not a good combination. I have included some pics to show the items made on the day, and the maker (Brian Collis) of the winning piece, (selected by a member of public) being presented with the traditional 'bottle in a bag' and trophy which he holds for a year. The winning piece was made on one of the three original forges inside the building, There was another 4 forges outside in constant use also throughout the day There are pictures of the inside of Finch foundry also, Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, but there is very little lighting inside (like 3 @ 100 watt light bulbs) but it should give you a feel for the place, these were taken before the place opend and anyone arrived, the leats were opened later to allow the machinery to work, The machinery was demonstrated working throughout the day along with firing the anvil. SteveW
Great event John, but such a shame about the weather, we only stayed for a couple of hours, a whingey seven year old with a broken coat zip made sure of that. No stamina the young these days.... I remember when.......
