Orchis
Hello everybody ! I am an autodidact blacksmith of a little French reenactment association and I come here to discuss iron stuff ! I am interested in historical smithing, swords, knives, iron ore smelting, and so on... I am also interested in old fire making methods like fire-steels with tinder and I worked on the physical mechanisms of making sparks as a student a few years ago. Your community seems very wide with beautiful work done here ! Stephane.

David Einhorn
Welcome to the forum. "autodidact" is a great word, I looked it up in the dictionary because I did not recognize it. Again welcome.

ThomasPowers
I've done iron smelting using early scandanavian short stack bloomeries---we were getting 15 pound blooms with no problems. What kind of ore will you be using?
