Hi, I'm just a new guy, and I've never forged anything in my life. I found this site by searching on the internet about Box Bellows, I had seen one just the other night on television, and wanted to know if it was real or not. I've always had an interest in these kinds of things, and would love to actually try it out. Unfortunatley theres nowhere around her that I could put a forge... :( Anyways, nice to meet you all! :)

A gas forge can be made from a party size freon tank (empty of course). A solid fuel forge can be as small as a small Weber Grill. We had one blacksmith use the balcony of his apartment for his forge, anvil, etc. Many blacksmiths take the whole shop on the road when doing demos. Brian Brazeal is going to pack his blacksmith shop into a 79 van and blacksmith each weekend as he travels from California to Virginia. If there is a desire you can work out the details.

I suppose it helps to have money to buy stuff as well... Another thing is I'm kind of boxed in by neighbors, I think they would get a little annoyed after a while...

Do not give up. It does take some money but if there is a will there is a way.
Just about any good size of iron will do as an anvil like an old sleage hammer
head or a peace of Railroad which i found cost me nothing. A forge can be made from scrap. there is alot of good idea here search them out. But I Do not know about how box in you are maybe you could work in someone shop
maybe??
Welcome and come on in

Anything takes money, but with blacksmithing you can make most of your own tools and equipment from materials others throw away (read junk). Go to the opening page of IForgeIron.com and click on lessons in metalworking > blacksmithing. Also look at Blueprint BP0133 the 55 forge for a simple, easy to construct and inexpensive solid fuel forge.

As to neighbors there are several threads on the site as to how to work with the neighbors and live in harmony.

Welcome aboard, glad to have ya.

A gas forge can be as small as a bean can and Bernzomatic torch or a single hibachi. anvils can be quite small too. With a little practice you can fit a pretty comprehensive blacksmithing kit in a couple 5gl buckets. And that means you aren't boxed in by your neighbors you can find a vacant lot or other open place you can ply the craft.

Sometimes small and portable is the only option.
