  1. There is a guy down the road from me that builds pole barns. I am going to check and see if he has any leftovers.
  2. I am in the process of building my shop and was orginally planning on using reclaimed lumber for the siding, but I am no longer able to find any near me. What are some other options people are using for wood siding. I am going for a rustic look. Thanks for the help Tim
  3. How did that hood do? Did it draw well? Thanks
  4. My wife's first forge was mad from an SS sink we found at the local traders market. We linded it with clay and refractory cement. We also sunk an old 8" tractor wheel in it for the fire pot. She has been using it for two years now at least 3 times a month with no issues. It was a good starter forge to learn from. If I did it again, I would have used a old brake rotor or drum with some slits in the side to pass longer pieces through. Use what ya got, we all have to start somewhere:)
  5. Looks nice. Very similar what I have in my forge now, just made out of rebar.
  6. I am not able to help on the spacers for your application, but you can get the fibrous washers from McMaster Carr. http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-washers/=cuh6v9
  7. That I can us galvanize pipe since it does not see enoough heat to remove the zinc coating. Or make my own out of something:D
  8. I am about to build a super suck hood from the plan on anvil fire and was wondering what most people are using for the chimney pipe? All I can get is 8" black stove pipe and 10" and 12" galvanized pipe. I have been searching the forum and some people do use galvanize, but would like to get others opinions on what pipe they use. The forge will be used outside, but I do not want to make myself sick. Thanks for the input EDIT: Think I found a post that answer my own question
  9. Hello everyone, first post on the board here. I joined the local blacksmithing club a few months back, currently working on building my first forge. The person I have been working with is out of town so I thought everyone on here could help me out. He told me I just needed an old steel wheel, but I have seen post on a sink forges also. I have an old stainless steel sink that I would like to use if it would work, smaller style one. 1. Can a stainless sink be used? 2. Will I need to line the sink with some type of refractory? 3. If so where could I find it. Thanks for the help
