  1. Thanks Frosty! Thats a big call as there is some seriously cool stuff on ifi! But i'll take it! I though it a pretty interesting challenge of just how much metal i could move and keep it one piece as i usually cut and or weld otherwise. You ideas are interesting and i would like to see them, ( all of them, you have to do all of them;) Keep a lookout, i might do an extravagant one in the future. Have a good new years everyone. Jim.
  2. Thanks for all your replies, took a bit to get right in the end ( too much work to hold one candle? Possibly!) But fun practice anyway.
  3. Thought i'd give this challenge another go, had a piece sitting on the bench anyway and had an idea after making a few candle holders, this one just holds the little tea light ones.
  4. That is a nice big chunk of steel for sure. Nice knives, I can see they would work great for skinning ( haven't don't that for a while, vegan 6 years now) good polish on them too! I will have to finally finish my leaf spring tanto style I have been working on.
  5. Beautiful copper flower..very intricate, good idea with the nails. I made a small armoury out of nails once, most are 3in nails, not really for kids, as some are shaving sharp.
  6. Billy, good idea on the duplex nails, can't say I have seen them here but I will have to find some. Latticino, those are pretty cool looking tongs. Savlaka, nice strong hinges, I like the temper colours too. Jim.
  7. Ah ok nice, don't know much about them but heard they are pretty good.
  8. Thanks JHCC,good idea i'll keep that in mind, undisputed king hey...you got me wanting to see a picture of that anvil now!
  9. Rojo, for sure, give it a go and post a pic, id like to see it, i dont mind a bit of ( candle ) stick welding;) Thanks Frosty, appreciate it alot mate. Chad, I have a charcoal and 2 burner gas forge, i use the gas now mostly as its quicker but it is a bit limited with certain shapes, ( couldn't fit a bit of coil spring in it to straighten last time!) then to get the bends just right( only had to straighten them a few millimetres) for the holder after it was done i use a mapp gas torch. Thanks everyone, have a good day. Jim.
  10. Thanks Jono, yeah i thought i would add the twists for something a little more exciting, just had to make the last bends right in one heat cause it wouldnt fit back in the forge lol. Billy, it was my first candle holder so just winged it as i went, was going to use a spike for the candles but then thought it would look good with those small tea light candles too, so no spike, figured the melted wax would hold them, ( mabye not though..may have to mod a small spike on thinking about it..) Yeah they are welded on. Will be trying a few more for sure! Snowfalls nice! Wish it snowed here but just isnt cold enough.
  11. Hey all, nice cool day for november here so thought i'd try an idea for a candle holder.
  12. Thats in great condition, barely a mark on it! Steam hammer anvil, interesting, would of been a good find. Big work surface for sure. Here is my 70kg anvil (154lb) not very old this one( 2019) bit soft too but i like it.
  13. Thanks John, they seem to be working pretty well so far. 196lbs, nice! Beautiful anvils aren't they. Jim.
  14. G'day Neil, thanks for the tip, I think I know what you mean, I did think about it not sitting square on the anvil but I'm only usually cutting 12mm stock. Thanks, you too mate. Jim.
  15. Interesting, thanks for the history mate. Jim.
  16. You all are making some great stuff. Alexandr thats a pretty impressive handrail! I just finished a simple hot cut i made from leaf spring, then had to grind it down a bit as the hardy hole is smaller than my other anvil. Made a few coil spring punches too.
  17. Nice anvil NicZa, ive never heard of Lokomo, where are they made? Nice fire rakes you made aswell. Jim.
  18. Nice Irondragon, should turn out real well. You going to weld them?
  19. Yeah ok, thanks. Haven't done much in the way of skulls, but i saw in one of your other posts a few you have done and they looked great.
  20. Looks good to me Daswulf, looks about 11in? Good leverage;)..did you have to upset the bit with the skull much?
  21. Cattail, nice Irondragon I like it. Makes me want to try a big gumleaf. (Try and forge, not eat, I'm no koala).
  22. Very narrow forging range then ay..you did well then. Sometimes i pull a piece from the forge and its only orange ( but not that high almost yellow colour), fine for mild but i guess 0-1 wouldnt do much at all haha.
  23. Billy, they look great,i like the small size. I have thought of making one out of leaf spring to use for woodworking also, what is tool steel like to forge?
