So I have a Hells Forge Deluxe double burner forge. Initially it came shipped with the Kaowool installed but I had to mix and apply my own refractory ( supplied by them). I followed the instructions from the company as to applying to a T. The forge after the initial burn process immediately had small cracks which grew over time as well as all the chipping. Fast forward a couple years I’ve decided to rip everything out and start over. I have installed the Kaowool and have applied and cured the rigidizer. I also do a lot of wood turning so I have a fairly good size kiln that I use for drying bowl blanks. After applying the rigidizer I put the entire forge into the kiln overnight at 90 degrees and it came out great. My question is, if I apply thin coats of refractory 1/16”-1/8” and put it back in the kiln would it cure it too fast and cause the same issues I had before with cracking? I can regulate the temperature all the way up to 150 possibly more if I add another temp light but if I’m remembering correctly optimal cure temp is 70-90 degrees. Any input would be appreciated.
