  1. Do you have a picture of what you're describing, Frosty? Would it be like a open top gas forge?
  2. I see Otto Engel in my material and supply list email too. I guess we'll find out this evening. We might be in the same class.
  3. I don't see who my instructor is. Where does it show?
  4. Who all is gonna be in the level 1 zoom class tonight? I've been looking forward to it.
  5. Update: i shortened the air hose to try to minimize flow resistance and it seems to be working much better
  6. Hello, i need some advice. I picked up a used home built forge. The issue came when i was lighting it the first time. A minute after i lit it both of my carbon monoxide detectors started going crazy so i immediately shut off the forge and went outside. I've been searching around for tips on tuning one of these forced air burners without much luck. My best guess is that I'm not getting enough air flow/pressure?
  7. I picked one up, it's pretty sweet. I got the ductile iron version. Now i just need a forge big enough to heat larger sheet metal so i can make bigger bowls
  8. by "moveable baffle walls" do you mean doors to close in the forge more or something inside the forge itself? i might have missed that thread
  9. Thanks! I've been reading for a few years now. I know it's not pretty but its getting way hotter way faster so I'm pretty happy with it so far
  10. I did a pivot and made a diy forge! Just did the first firing
  11. Thanks, that's good to know. I don't wanna get to class and realize i don't have the materials or tools for the class.
  12. I signed up for the same class. I didn't see any kind of recommended materials list or prep work for the class. I'm not really sure what to expect in the class. Defiantly looking forward to it though!
  13. Thank you for the advice, i got some kiln shelf from a local shop and I'll practice cutting it this weekend
  14. I haven't used kiln shelves before, are they easy to cut?
  15. I've thought about re lining and putting an extra layer of insulation but I'm thinking the resulting internal volume may be too small.
  16. I haven't tried plastix but I've coated the inside with itc100 which i think is similar. I've considered replacing the hard fire brick floor with a soft firebrick but I'm worried it'll melt
  17. What commercially available forges do y'all use? I'm using a single burner gells forge at the moment but I'm having trouble getting it to welding heat. I'm looking at the chilli forge. I want one with minimum 2 inches of insulation but almost all of them have only one
  18. I know this thread is dead but I use foam ear plugs with bone conduction headphones. They work pretty well
  19. Unfortunately mine didn't come with a stand. Is there any companies that still make a stand? I'm thinking I could maybe get a large log section from one of the tree service companies and use that. I'm not sure how I'd get the ends flat and parallel though
  20. What kind of table or stand do y'all use for a fly press? Ideally I want something i can move when i need to. I have a small shop and I'm trying to use the space efficiently
  21. Thanks for your replies. As for the ventilation issue, I have and exhaust fan that will be positioned in the wall over my Forge and a intake fan that will be located in the opposite corner. I also have two carbon monoxide detectors in case one fails. I'm eventually planning on going induction but I'm sure I'll still need propane for some things. Swamp coolers don't work well here. Humidity is at 88% right now.
  22. Do any of yall have air conditioning in your shop? I'm working on building a new shop and trying to see if it's reasonable to air condition my space. I have a 12000btu portable ac unit that should be more than capable of keeping the shop cool, but with the heat from the forge. The shop is about 200 sqft.
  23. Is that a coal iron works press? I've been thinking about getting one. Do you like it?
  24. I'm in baton rouge. For the most part, there's not much actual damage here other than a few areas where tornados spun off of the hurricane. I just got power back at home, I'm starting to feel human again. It was 82F inside with high humidity.
