  1. honestly I was just thinking drill a hole in a 4x4 and stick it in there. then take the 4x4 and stick it in the hole in the box. don't gotta worry bout the drawers now that there obilterated by my first brilliant idea
  2. no pallets from my friend. I'll figure something out. always been good at puzzles
  3. my uncle should have a few pallets I can have. I'll know tomorrow. I shut the forge down for the day. but atleast I'm gettin a ok idea on what I'm doing as far as making this peice of steel longer. it was 6 inches long and now it's 8 inches long. once I figure out my anvil headaches I'll be off to the races
  4. funny you should mention that..... that's exactly what happened..... I think I know where I can get a couple pallets but it'll have to wait till monday. (no truck tomorrow and he's not there on sundays) thought I'd atleast get a day out of this setup before it broke.
  5. see the above pic. and I didn't even have to stop what I was doing. I just did it while the steel was in the fire
  6. actually I had an idea based on yours. I just cut a hole in my "anvil stand" and shoved it in just got more done on this peice of steel then I have in 3 hours this is great
  7. I ment I don't have lumber so I'd have to go find some. and I'm not gunna get much done today outside the shop. I got the forge goin
  8. this is the sledge head. and the basics I know about Australia are they have the cool fords and koalas look cute and fluffy but will murder you
  9. I'd love to go to Australia one day. but I'd be afraid everything wants to kill me eat me or both... I'll figure it out tomorrow. I'm betting I can use a hole saw to make a decent hole in the table leg and then just beat the thing in to the hole. (man that sounds dirty) then I'll figure out a way to stick it to my old bottom box that my current anvil is sitting on. I'd love to drill a hole through it and just stick it in but I like functioning drawers on this one.
  10. it's in the shop. I'll take a pic tomorrow. I'll see if I have a hole saw big enough then. I'll cut a hole and just hammer the thing in the rest of the way. and I was just about to ask a stupid question. I was about to ask if I could heat treat it after burning it into the handle but then I realized that wouldent be a good idea unless I want the table leg to be on fire
  11. so last question. should I do something to this sledge head? like make the face flat or something? for the stand I decided I'm gunna burn it into a old table leg and strap it to the side of my box to hold it up. eventually I'll stick it in a bucket of concrete
  12. Works for me. thanks think I know what i'ma do. a trip to lowes is in order. I'll post a pic when done. but I also got an idea for something to look for at the scrap yard too. an axle shaft.
  13. stoped by the scrap yard. didn't find anything I really liked but I did find a 15 pound sledge hammer head. and a nice pair of tongs. I figure I can use the sledge head untill I can find something a bit bigger. any ideas how I can mount this thing?
  14. ok. so I need thick not big. got it. soooooo uhhhhhhh where would I find a train axle?!? been looking at pole anvils. I'd love to get my hands on a steel post or something. put it in a bucket of concrete for a base and then put that bucket in a bigger bucket of sand so I don't drown out my radio off the reverb of concrete. (altho all the metal dust on the floor might help that some. I really need to sweep) I'm really used to looking for odd uses for stuff in stores. one of my favorite things to do is go to lowes and look for random stuff to some off the wall project I'm working on. love it when the guy helping you find stuff gives me the head tilt puppy dog face that just screams confused. also, what would the holes on the flange be good for? haven't seen much about actual teqnique on here. (tryed looking for a absolute basics type deal but no luck yet)
  15. if my scrap yard can't help me out. (I really have no clue if they sell to the public or not) I might know a place that can help me out. used to deliver parts to a place that fixes bulldozers and the like. didn't think of that to be honest
  16. I figured I'll give em a shot. and if nothing else the bigger ones I can stick in the forge
  17. it's the nicest file I have now (witch is saying something considering I bought a crap ton of harbor frieght ones the other day O.o )
  18. been reading alot of stuff on here and other places. im picking up a few things but im still mostly clueless haha.
  19. yea gotta love when you dont know enough to know what you dont know. atleast my forge works
  20. thanks. so flea markets and ask around basicly? let me add one (hopefully) last question. how to i tell steel from iron? wish i could find a free stump
