  1. I really want to get a vtx1800. I'd be happy finding a motor and trans tho custom soft tail frame with a springer front. would make a great highway mile eater
  2. it's a good bike. love the thing. almost bought a bigger peice of metal at 121 pounds but my ratchet strap wasent rated that high. I might still go get it next week. it's not a scrap yard but the end cuts and stuff is available to the public at for steel 85 cents a pound witch ain't horible
  3. wound up getting this from a metal supply shop in the city. 40 pounds mild carbon steel I'll build a stand for it tomorrow
  4. at first I tried to drill and chisel a hole for the sledge head. the wood split. secound attempt I tried to use my hole saw and cut a hole in a smaller peice of wood that I would then nail to the top of the post. the wood split. so I did the exhuast pipe option. and then the wood split. wood hates me or something
  5. well I've never been above being a laughing stock I'll see if I can find any bulldozer repair shops
  6. do I just walk up to them and ask if they got any giant chunks of steel laying round?
  7. could it be heat treated at all? cant find anything decent at my scrap yard. its mostly washing machines and thin sheet scrap couldent even find anything that looked decent to stick in the forge ended up buying some bar stock at lowes when i picked up a clearance grill for my new forge
  8. so the sledge hammer head on a post didnt last to long. the post split while i was forging. oops. sooooooo question for you steel experts here, would hot rolled A-36 steel be a good steel for a anvil? i can get a 3 inch round one foot or 2 foot long piece for a good price (one foot is 47 bucks and 2 feet is 85 not bad in my opinion) but ill pass on it if its not a decent metal to use as an anvil
  9. yea that'll take a little getting used to.
  10. Works alot better to. this thing gets HOT. this one will last me awhile. the last one after awhile the bottom would plug up and kill the airflow killing the fire. this one once it's goin it's on. and I'm gettin bright orange and got the 3/8s steel rod I was workin to yellow where the last one I could manage a medium to bright red on the same rod so I'm happy (atleast untill I melt one of the tongs on a stake fork I was making)
  11. yea a cutout on the other end is a good idea. I might just use the holes already there and slot em out and bring the opening down so I can keep the rigidity ontop to help support the lid
  12. the hair dryer has 2 settings and then I can open or close the bottom as much or little as I like. it seemed to really like low setting with the bottom closed off
  13. finished building my secound forge. built out of a grill and used lessons from my first forge to make this one and it rocks. acedently melted what I was making. oops. the fuel is tractor supply coal. the blower is a hair dryer from dollar general the fire pot is the brake rotor from my first forge and the pipeing is a 3 inch exhuast pipe with a 2 1/4 coupler welded into the side for the t pipe. whole thing is miles ahead of the last forge. input? suggestions to make it better?
  14. so after using it today it'll do for now. it's on the list to upgrade tho but it'll work for now
  15. well after a week of trying to figure this out I finally have it set up. 4x4 with a 3 inch od to 3 inch id exhuast connector hammered into to the top of the 4x4 and then put through the box. (it's resting on the floor not the box itself. the top looks uneven becuase the top of the box is all concaved and messed up)
  16. I'll try to be. first meeting and all, might as well get there early to try and get a feel of things. plus it'll let me get through the city while most people are still sleeping off Friday night
  17. 2000 honda shadow vt1100. it's a big heavy vtwin. love that thing. your hear me long before you see me haha I'm 24 so I'm good on the parent front. 23rd got it. 8am right?
  18. it's this weekend? thought it was the 28th? I'll be the guy with the red bike. odds are I'll be wearing my standerd uniform of blue jeans brown boots black tshirt and leather vest. and the meeting is at arc and flame right? and thank you for knowing what a hypnotoad is. most people just assume it's a frog
  19. so what would I put in it? or would I be excused considering this would be my first meeting?
  20. it's in my calendar. I sent an email asking about this iron in the hat thing I saw but no response
  21. I'd cut a hole in the bottom too. the 4x4 would be resting on concrete. the box would just hold it up really.
