I really want to get a vtx1800. I'd be happy finding a motor and trans tho custom soft tail frame with a springer front. would make a great highway mile eater

at first I tried to drill and chisel a hole for the sledge head. the wood split. secound attempt I tried to use my hole saw and cut a hole in a smaller peice of wood that I would then nail to the top of the post. the wood split. so I did the exhuast pipe option. and then the wood split. wood hates me or something

so the sledge hammer head on a post didnt last to long. the post split while i was forging. oops. sooooooo question for you steel experts here, would hot rolled A-36 steel be a good steel for a anvil? i can get a 3 inch round one foot or 2 foot long piece for a good price (one foot is 47 bucks and 2 feet is 85 not bad in my opinion) but ill pass on it if its not a decent metal to use as an anvil

my secound forge
yea that'll take a little getting used to.

my secound forge
Works alot better to. this thing gets HOT. this one will last me awhile. the last one after awhile the bottom would plug up and kill the airflow killing the fire. this one once it's goin it's on. and I'm gettin bright orange and got the 3/8s steel rod I was workin to yellow where the last one I could manage a medium to bright red on the same rod so I'm happy (atleast untill I melt one of the tongs on a stake fork I was making)

my secound forge
yea a cutout on the other end is a good idea. I might just use the holes already there and slot em out and bring the opening down so I can keep the rigidity ontop to help support the lid
-
my secound forge
the hair dryer has 2 settings and then I can open or close the bottom as much or little as I like. it seemed to really like low setting with the bottom closed off

my secound forge
finished building my secound forge. built out of a grill and used lessons from my first forge to make this one and it rocks. acedently melted what I was making. oops. the fuel is tractor supply coal. the blower is a hair dryer from dollar general the fire pot is the brake rotor from my first forge and the pipeing is a 3 inch exhuast pipe with a 2 1/4 coupler welded into the side for the t pipe. whole thing is miles ahead of the last forge. input? suggestions to make it better?

could use some anvil advice
well after a week of trying to figure this out I finally have it set up. 4x4 with a 3 inch od to 3 inch id exhuast connector hammered into to the top of the 4x4 and then put through the box. (it's resting on the floor not the box itself. the top looks uneven becuase the top of the box is all concaved and messed up)

I'd cut a hole in the bottom too. the 4x4 would be resting on concrete. the box would just hold it up really.
