  1. So day 2 at the forge I worked on 3 projects. 1) continued drawing out handles on the tongs...2) made a flint striker...it worked...gonna do some more shaping though 3)tried straightening a piece of random coil. Maybe 1/4" thick and maybe 2.5" diameter stock...however it started to break in a spot. I KNOW i did not burn it. Had someone show me burnt metal. Can anyone offer any idea?
  2. Lumber yes...pressure treated no...id never burn pressure treated. Dont even like touching PT lumber. Its old dirty whitewood.
  3. You have NO idea...for now im confortable with ground forge but as you said EVENTUALLY the forge will be tabletop...the anvil OMG has too be raised. 32oz framing hammer DOES NOT work...i used what i had...harbor freight engineering hammer in my near future. And ill be joining phillip morris artist blacksmith guild for xmas...yeap already had planned EXACTLY what you just said. Went xxxx backwards on my tongs...oh well vice grips will do..and i LEARNED.

  8. Its got to be better than that rail road track that i was gonna rig up. Cant beat the price I paid for it.
  9. Can someone tell me what I have here. I can tell its a williams foster. Im currently working on building a forge. Before I could get my rail road track set up to hammer my first piece of metal I aquired this anvil. Know nothing at this point. Will I love or hate this? Approximate value?
  10. So just to get started safely one could literally just fill a container with dirt...say maybe a nice wooden table with sides a good several inches high...back fill it with dirt...leave an inch rim to keep tools from rolling...and a hole for air flow and charcoal...please correct me if i over simplified that as ive only seen 1 working forge...
