You will definitely want to clean up the primer/primer pocket/case. Primer compounds vary but here is a list of chemicals in my Federal primers sitting on my bench:
Normal Lead styphnate
Barium nitrate
Antimony sulfide
Lead thiocyanate
I would guess in the height of WWII - they used what was the most efficient and reliable - not what was the cleanest.

Thomas - thank you for the information, I will have to look those up. Since Troy is an hour from me I will definitely put that on my calendar.

Hello,
My name is Mike and I am looking to learn as much as I can. I live in southwest Ohio and keep myself busy with woodworking and beekeeping right now but after taking a welding course and a machinist course I am looking at metal working to maybe complement woodworking pieces. I am signed up to take a course in blacksmithing and don't have anything set up yet but I figured this would be a great place to read about what works, what doesn't and ask questions.
What did you do in the shop today?

Great wedding gift but you may be right - you may be in hot water with the bride...
