michael klemz
so I got a new forge and I was just forging and I saw some fire was coming out of the second torch hole and I thought it was ok because that one wasn't on it was all good but then I went over and felt the propane valve and the piping around it was hot and I got worried that the propane on the other side of the valve would ignite so I turned it all off and now I'm here
ThomasPowers
Can you explain how it could ignite without the presence of Oxygen? If you don't have a burner running then it acts as an exhaust outlet and hot gasses will climb the tube. Better to remove the tube and block the port in the forge. michael klemz
I completely forgot about oxygen and fire and all that xxxx I am a xxxxxxx but yeah I'll probably just take out the torch and block it with a firebrick. and one more question how do I relight a hot forge I just thought I could turn the propane back on and it would light I just got a small explosion
HojPoj
Could you post a photo of your forge? If the openings are restricted or not large enough then that's a very real possibility. Are you dialing the pressure down to the bare minimum before turning the gas back on?
ThomasPowers
I toss a bit of wood in the hot forge. If it will light I turn the gas back on while it's still burning. If it won't light then I light the forge as I usually do when starting out.
