About six bucks for a forty pound bag. If you go online, the TSC website will let you know if it's in stock at your local store, although since it's a seasonal item, its location (even whether or not it's on display) will probably change.

The thing about anthracite is that it needs pretty constant air. If you shut the blast off with charcoal or bituminous, it will keep going on its own, but anthracite will go out fairly quickly. Thus, a mechanical blower will generally work better than a manual.

    I'll check tsc

I'm one of those people who uses rice coal from Tractors Supply Company, which is cheap and widely available. However, it is anthracite (hard coal) rather than the bituminous (soft coal) most blacksmiths prefer

I heard Trent talking about this but I need to watch the video again and how much is this coal at TSC and is it next to the charcoal

  3. Ok update everyone

Truck: put new fuel pump on and got to get a steel line to go to the carbarator my money didn't come in this week don't know why but it should be in Monday had to borrow some from my grandpa to get the pump. Got to pay him back and get line and some fittings

To frosty I found that the bed of my truck is a perfect height for the anvil but I have to re do my forge it's just not working like I planned

Attempted some blacksmithing this weekend but no luck

Got one question for you who use coal where do you get it from.

Also didn't know about a .22 bullet in the yard when I got the torch out and cut my pipe and man that went off in my ear and I'm taking a few days off cause my ears are ringing like crazy.

Talk to y'all sunday after church. And thank you @littleblacksmith for you generous contourbution which I can't spell it will be greatly appreciated.

  4. I was serious while I was on summer break it was all I done mostly saving money and buying tools and welding stuff I mean I was about 13 when I picked up a torch and my brother is kinda new at this cause he live in the Westminster. I live in Salem and we are trying to make a living out of it just got to do some things first.and wait for income so we can get to work making small blacksmithing projects and it's true I haven't been a member long but I still know a few things

  5. Ok guys it's Friday finally got the fuel pump off and my money has come in yet, I'm worried. Now back to blacksmithing did anybody get anything from the pic of the rebar. See how it was bent. Now I have have a shop to clean up and a tongs to forge after school and I might have to go get my brother so it should be a fun weekend

This is more than a hobby it's more of a way of life for most of us.

    To answer your question @littleblacksmith

  6. whats up, its thursday the day everyone likes but still hates cause it aint Friday, got to check the money in the bank tomarrow and if i got the money im heading down to napa and going to get my brother if he decides to come. so fixing the truck is a yes im gonna put my brother to work burning old table and then making new one while i fix truck and empty the fire pot but if he dont come i will not clean up the shop beacuse i aint workin on both by myself cause i aint like i was a few years ago. hopefully im gonna start videoing my stuff so you can see what im doing and what i can do better and my laptop batter is dying so yeah today im gonna start by taking the fuel pump off when i get home and then ill carry it with me to Napa. so did anyone see anything with the rebar.

Myou know, home schooling and votech gives a time to scrounge around for side gigs, like cleaning up yards and such. Get the truck up and running, no reson for a man with a pickup and a willingness to get dirty and sweat to be broke. Your willing to smith, so I know your willing to work.

Make dang sure it's in park or neutral and the parking brake is set! Getting ran over buy your own truck is a possibility if you try to jump the starter terminals!

Actually I can't drive I only have permit next march when I get my license. Fuel lines are good it's the pumps that gives me trouble and this manual fuel pump should do the trick and for the gear it's not automatic put it in first and break tanks and manifolds are next

My brother is thinking of coming over this weekend and we'll we have a lot of work to do but it will be worth it a I got an old table to burn and pipes and lids to weld a peice holder to make and a pair of tongs to forge and a 36 pack of Pepsi's to finish and a fuel pump to change and give my brother a lesson on how to drive a stick

  8. mine is a 305 and i don't lay on the starter if it doesn't want to crank i start to pushing but we fixed the starting problem when we put a new battery in it from NAPA and it cranked at 230 i just couldn't believe it but now it cranks like at 190 and a 210 it wont start

Bit over kill, lol. But if you go to manifolds you will have to have that cut out and replaced with 2". Is their a cros over pipe? If not next time you have a few extra $ either pick up an ir pyrometers or have youe exist shop put her on a rack and find the hot spot in those 3" runs, have them connect them with a 2" cross over at the hotspots. It will improve exhaust scavenging and intake loading. Every little bit helps

my dad was the one to blame for the 3 in pipes he fixed it up when he need it to go to work and then gave it to me when he go his truck fixed and no its a twin exhaust

  10. 9 minutes ago, Charles R. Stevens said:

Or just install a new Chevy relay and a heat shields. Going back to manifolds will require reworking the exhaust system, and with a 1" spacer under the carburetor, headers will give you a bit more pep (and beter gas image if you stay out of the secondaries on the Q-jet). Tho for the most gain match the intake and exhaust ports next time you have the heads off.

I have 3 inch pipes going out of the mufflers, gas tanks are $60-70, straps are about 12, and the fuel selector is about 50, i also later want a 4WD conversion but i got to find transfer case and the hubs pump is 20 and manifolds are 200 so a good 300 right now i need fuel effecieny more

  11. it aint pumping fuel to cabartor my dad has this idea that the electric ones are better than the manual ones but this is the fifth pump we've had to put on so im just gonna buy a manual and put it on. and then it has a starter overheating problem and i have to roll it off if it gets over a certiant temp 190 its a 85 Chevy c10 pickup 4 speed with low manual we also had to replace the fuel tank with a different one because it was "a suicide tank" and nothing wrong with it but i am going to buy the 2 20 gallon tanks selector and all that goes with it. and put it on my self and get the bed back and buy the right size sides cause the bed was rusted and it needed a new tailgate and both sides and then fix the interior and paint it blue and get a new seat and a radio with a casset player

  12. I am trying to get my online classes working but since our school shut down and reopened as a charter school we've had some problems but I've got to get my truck fixed so I can go to the career center and take welding

  13. Somthings wrong with my phone when i try to use it to quote, it will then only let me write in the quote

rarley i can get it to do what i want

    Quote

    Dial Up Internet

I remember that is that even still around i mean nobody can be on the phone and it takes 30 minutes to load a page i remember those day in my childhood i was happy when we got dsl but now that we have charter im happier

almost time for lunch guys todays menue looks like either pork sandwiches or philly cheese steak., i got free time in algebra 2 and then i have Eng 3 and should be free rest of day

I just finally saw that now haha. I let my eyes blur just enough and saw it.

You are going to ruin that $12. Heat gun right quick with it at the bottom of the pipe. If you ran out of pipe then cut some off that one and make a T.  Even a short pipe off to the side is a whole lot better then having ash fall down into the blower. I see that your forge is welded together do you have access to a welder? That would make it easy to make a t pipe. Other then that there are several other ways to go about it.

I was going to comment on the cinder blocks but you just commented on that so all I'll say it they would be stronger stacked with the holes going down through. Rather then stacked on their sides.

i have a MiG from harbor freight, and i ran out of wire while i was welding it to the barrel lid because i didn't care how it went together, and it got deformed it was made from a bed frame i cut up and welded together

Okay, good. I missed that detail; thanks.

Think seriously about replacing the blocks with either a wood or metal stand. Cinder blocks don't do well under repeated shocks, and you do NOT want your anvil to suddenly be drop

Yeah but i stand 6'5" tall and I need it to be about 4'7" I'm guessing but when it broke it didn't fall the anvil keep it together and I need a way to keep my peice held so I can do something else while it's being heated

If you can find a #2 hammer for a couple of bucks at a flea market, that's going to do just fine for now. Remember: accuracy first, power second!

If you're watching Trenton Tye's YouTube channel, you've probably seen his recent videos about using chunks of junkyard steel as anvils. If not, definitely worth checking out; certainly better than cinder blocks (if only in terms of durability). One thing, though: here on IFI, when we say "ASO" or "Anvil-Shaped Object", we generally mean something that looks like an anvil, but doesn't work like one (for example, one of those cast iron monstrosities from Harbor Freight), but when Mr. Tye says "ASO", he means something that works like an anvil, but doesn't look like one. Here on IFI, we would usually call that an "improvised anvil" or a "block anvil".

I have an anvil I was using the cinder blocks to get it to where I can reach it and I have one of those harbor freight monstrositys and what I've seen is that it like to work hot or it will put a dent in it but I got a peice of junk steel on top of it

  17. Well the YouTube channel I watch for blacksmithing is purgatory ironworks (forged in fire S1 Ep2) and the 3lb is the only straight pein hammer I could find in the store and I'm 6'5" and 320lbs and the sledgehammer is my 8# the 4 is a mallet  it came that way wen I bought it and I'm thinking of ting the forge but I ran out of pipe and I'm meeting the plastic on my $12 heatgun

Yes, just take it to the local welding supply, they'll even inspect it for you and might not charge for the O ring.

If you're getting tired in just a couple minutes use a LIGHTER hammer! I don't even let beginners use more than a 2lb. hammer till they'v built up to it. Please take care while you're young and heal quickly. Believe me you'll pay for any damage you do yourself now, us old farts can list the ailments we've done ourselves and pay for now. No fooling, don't get us started comparing, aches, pains and worn out bits! :o

    Frosty The Lucky.

I'm using a 3lb cross pein hammer I was using a 4 lb Sledge hammer cutoff handle and I get wat you mean I don't feel the same like I used to.  But it mostly because of the environment I work in
