One of my favorite cars I ever owned was a 76’ Toyota celica with a 22r from a 4x4 sr5.  Thing was built by someone who knew their stuff.  Red line was 9000 and it’d do 60 in 2nd gear.   Tires.... what tires. Thing would smoke the tires taking off in 2nd and smoke rolled in every gear.  Only racing I did was local drags but it did very well.  Sure miss that car

Lids not needed.  Won’t hold enough heat to make any difference.  Charcoal will straight melt steel no problem, if your not able to you may have too much air which will cool your stock.   Lid looks cool though

I got lucky with files.  Was given a bucket of scrap metal and the bottom was full of Nicholson files in great shape

Thats a a lot of fuel Conrad.  It can be quite satisfying to break up those chunks 

Could take some 1/2” round and bend in a U.  Then lay that on your anvil, set billet on top.  Then you have both hands to run hammer and top fuller.  Still would be nice to have a hardy of some sort so you can draw the cheeks out if that’s what your wanting to do

or....

make a bottom fuller and drive it in a stump

I think your blades have been great cgl.   How far are you from Fort Worth?  I’m hoping to go visit my cousins down there and do a hog hunt.  If your close enough I’d love to swing by and visit when I do.  Maybe bring ya a hammer 

I’m not sure.  Yet.  Probably oak with leather wrap.  This one is just one of my practice peace’s so I’ll probably keep it myself.

I’ve used pine for my beating stump and it was my stand for my striking anvil.  Only xxxx knows how many hot plugs dropped in the hardy hole and smoldered.   Ponderosa pine is tough stuff and doesn’t burn aswell as other pines.   Lodge pole I wouldn’t use

I think this chart has a lot to do with it.  Many folks think it’s gospel though it is some times correct that’s often not the case and while some of the alloys used will be similar some will not.  Always test unknown steel and don’t assume it’s what you think it is

From what I’m finding they have a large range from 1.5lbs to over 6lbs.   Most being 3-5.   Customer wants 4.5lb but I plan todo a few around 3lb to see if it’s better.   I do know the balance should be forward the hand guard.  It’s a chopping weapon designed for slower short movements.

3 hours so far.  Some serious pounding today.   Proud to say I’m about 99% sure not a single cold shunt.   Was very carful not to get the thick spot on the edge folds! Rotate more and keep those edges clean.  Got some big ss for hand guard and pomel 

My new favorite is the 2.5lb I made but I used the 4lb for most of this. Was tempted to used the 8lb warwood but never did switch 

Got a request for a dadao.   Going to make half dozen and see if it’s something I can do.  Shooting for 4.5 lb or so.  Learning as I go but have been doing my research.
