Welcome to the forum. Mind if I ask what you mean by "old school fashion"? The craft has been around for thousands of years, so a time period would be helpful if we are going to do you any good with advice. Also be aware that, although doing things using antiquated methods is fun and educational, there is a reason they are antiquated. opting for a rough rock instead of a belt grinder may be a heck of a cool thing to try, but PLEASE don't limit yourself unnecessarily. Again, welcome to the forum and the craft.

What would that even look like?

Nice work. How come you Aussies get all the cool looking animals?

Hmm. Looks like a bit of shinyish RR track.

Drowned by rain or eaten alive by the midges... definitely 'awesome'
I was more talking about the historical side of it. In a country so young as america, we have not had much time to build up our own "flavor". I absolutely love 13-16th century Scottish Weaponry. It Is a shame though, about their weapons restrictions. Cant Imagine not being allowed to carry one of my own blades.

Welcome aboard! Scotland would be an awesome place to be a smith.

Nice Job. Totally awesome build. Don't apologize for your English. I tried learning Hebrew as a second language, but never got very far. They say English is way harder to learn than Hebrew, so my hat is off to you.

Get better fast. This forum is altogether to serious and we can't stand the loss of our Wisecrack-In-Chief for any undue length of time.

Okay so what if I decide to hammer out a small knife out of re bar and test to see if it works if it does work I guess that means I can post pics of it and boast a bit then huh.
By all mean. When you post pictures, however, be sure to post a video with edge retention and flex tests.

And it makes good rattlesnakes.
Oops, that was said already.

I have an extra bench vice I will use for a horizontal vice when I rebuild the welding table. 'Spect I will use it mostly for draw-filing and the like on knife blades.

Looking good, brotha.

scorpion scrap art commission. Just need to shape the stinger and bend the legs. Final look over/work on little details, then cleanup and clear coat.
Leave it like it is. Flying scorpion.

Tnks.

That makes sense. I'm gonna have to try that too. Just when I thought I had a long enough list of experiments...
-
Nope. I am going to research that process now. sounds like it could be a viable option. Thanks for the tip.

Liquid nails it into the middle of next week, then a half dozen 6'' lag screws round the edges going in at a 45 deg angle. That's what I would do, at least.

Thanks!!
I actually made a sgian dubh recently that I did the "gun blue thing on, steel wool off" thing on, and though the finished looked amazing, it showed even the tiniest scratch bright and clear. I plan on using this one as an EDC for a while, so I didn't want to give it a "delicate" finish that would look horrible after a month. If I could find a more durable cold blue I would totally down with using it.
