  1. I got my 240 lb. Soderfores Paragon today.. it took a few days longer to arrive then expected.. it didn't get picked up when it was supposed to .. it was a good thing the seller did use those heavy duty zipties !! they held the anvil in place very well as the tie downs worked themselves loose and really did little to nothing to hold anything in place.. actually a $20.00 waste of money..  part of the pallet even broke and those zipties held it all together !! it was to dark to get more photos when I got home from work but will add some when I get a chance .. Greetings JT,

.            Ya mean your going to hit it with a hammer?  An anvil of that quality belongs in a bank safety box. I have a very large one at my bank and will store it for you at no charge., I see your from Michigan so I will give you a loaner to work on., Nice score..

Forge on and make beautiful things

Jim  / From Lake City and Cadillac

Thank you Jim Coke !! I'll have to think on that one for awhile !! lol  I see your in Cadillac, I'm down in Saginaw... JT

that just might be the best anvil you will ever forge on. prepare to have your hammer fly out of your hands and through the roof when u hit it. soderfors have some REBOUND. i have a 160 lb soderfors and the only thing better would be a 260 lb soderfors. :) congrats on a beautiful anvil.

Thank you Tubalcain2 !! and for the warning about the REBOUND !! maybe I should try my first time outdoors so I don't put a hole in my roof !! lol  JT

  3. I was looking at that awhile back and almost bought it.. its nice and from what I have been told its well worth it.... he won't budge from his $1100.00 at least back then, and its been for sale for a long time.... I was told on here buy other members it is actually for 1926 not 1910 ..  I since bought a couple other anvils one 290 lb. Peter Wright and a 240 lb. Soderfors Paragon both very nice and both for much much less... JT

It also appears that the stand may be a little high for general forging, although I'm not sure what you will be using your anvil for, or how tall you are, but it just appeared kinda tall. Knuckle high seems to be most common height for anvils. But like I said it depends a lot on what you will be doing with it. what kind of forging will you be using it for?

Hello littleblacksmith !! yes its way to tall for me.. lol.. the seller was much taller then me..  its on 3 blocks of wood and I need to take at least 1 off.. then see where that leaves it.. JT

It is a FISHER.  Probably made in the 1950's.  It could have had a paper label on the "back" side when shipped.  Most of these did not survive.  They were just stuck on like a postage stamp, and easily got damaged or fell off.   For whatever reason, I have never seen a Fisher with a date after 1951, and many also did not have the Eagle or Fisher on the front.

Thank you njanvilman !! that's nice to know.. as like stated before I hadn't seen them like this in my short time looking at anvils !! I've tried to read everything I can find on them but must have not seen or didn't remember reading that..as I was mostly interested in finding out about the early one at the time... I haven't taken it off the stand yet to weigh it and shorten the stand as its about 1 wood block to tall for me.. I'm  thinking your correct about being in the 100 lb. range I'll try to weigh it tomorrow .. JT

  7. well I have this anvil at home now.. just looking it over at the sellers house I don't see any markings, numbers, or eagle.. it sure looks like a fisher to me.. I know some very early fishers didn't have markings, but this looks much later.. the later ones I've seen have the eagle and weight and fisher markings on them... does anyone have any ideas about this one ?? thanks, JT

  8. well after my last eBay escapade if you have read my last post about "I bought an Anvil today"  about my 290 lb. Peter Wright.. and the one that got away on the rotten eBay deal...... well life has its ups and downs... first up then down and now back up !! after I got back home from that experience I found this nice Fisher just listed and is nicer and was cheaper then that eBay dud... I pick this one up tomorrow !!  JT

that's sounds more like the typical story for sure !! wait until I tell you my next story !! and that's great that you at least got your Grandfathers anvil even if it was a little smaller it was your Grandfathers and you can't beat the price !!!  now for my story of today !!! well I had bid on a Anvil on eBay before I found my 290#er.. so I really didn't want the one I bid on.. I thought when I bid on it I had a fair chance to got it because they had a unreal shipping quote on it or local pick up..  it was at a antique shop 2 hours away from me.. well I ended up with the winning bid.. I emailed the shop and told them I would pick it up in person and pay cash on pick up. the shop is only open on the weekends or by appointments only.. I asked if I could pick it up today and they said yes that would be fine.. we set a time to be there and I took a half day off work and drove the 2 hours one way... the guy wasn't there.. I called him and he did come there... now... once in the shop the anvil was nowhere to be found !! the kid that meet me there tried calling his "boss" and he would not answer.... then called the "owner" and he didn't know why it wasn't there... then said.. the kids "boss" told him he sold it and its no longer there ??? it wasn't listed as being for sale anywhere else then eBay and the kid does all the eBay listings and informed both his "boss" and the "owner" it was on eBay and had been for over a week and had bids on it.. and told them it SOLD last night !!!  all they said was well sorry its not here anymore.... JT

WOW !!  it only gets better.. I turned in a complaint with eBay about what happened and then got a message from eBay saying the seller canceled the transaction because I asked for a cancelation or something was wrong with my address !! WOW .. these guys are real dirt bags !!  this story goes from good to evil it just a few days !! That's my anvil story. Saw a 120# anvil on CL for $100. Called the guy. Told him I wanted it. Went out to buy it. When I told him I'd take it and went to pay him, he told me the price was $300. I reminded him his CL ad said $100. He told me that was a typo. Right. Okay, I don't have $300 on me, but if you'll hold it, I'll be back tomorrow night. He said okay. Next day after work I'm halfway there and he calls and tells me he just sold it. I guess it was nice he bothered to call before I drove ALL the way out.

I guess it all worked out. I talked to my dad later. Mentioned I was looking for an anvil. He said he had grampa's old anvil and I could have it. So I ended up with an 80# anvil for free.

I picked up a 138# PW recently for $100 off of Craigslist. The guy was having a garage sale and it had sat out without being sold when I contacted him on Sunday. He sent me a picture, and I told him it was sold, and I was on my way. I told him I was about 70+ miles away, so give me 1.5 hrs to get there. As I was driving down the freeway I got a call from him asking me if I was on my way, and I said yes. He said OK, I have a guy here waving cash at me, but I'll tell him it was sold. When I drove up, I thanked him, and laid the cash in his hand. I have had things sold out from under me other times, so I appreciate it when someone keeps their word.

Hear Hear !! I almost thought you were going to say he called and told you he sold it even though you were half way there !! its refreshing to find there are people that still stand by their word in this day and age !! glad for you that you scored it !! JT
