you can also make a small (very small) sugar spoon out of the head end of the nail. never made one but have heard of the idea somewhere-cant remember now.

Only problem might be rust, from all of the contact with sweaty hands. Would have to find a rust/tarnish proof finish.

hey guys I will soon be going to an herb fest to sell some stuff. basically, an herb fest for those of you who don't know, is where you sell plant/gardening related items and home baked food. anyways, I have come up with a few things- leaf key chains, plant hangers, gardening tools, s-hooks, and a few other items, but was wondering if ya'll have and other plant/gardening themed items that sell well at fairs, and so on. Thanks!

I like the real "suttle" pattern, im glad you didn't do a pattern that was crazy and wild.

I would have left the pipe end a bit shorter, but that's just me.

I really like the look of the fat peen. pretty much always when I buy a new hammer, I have to radius the edge.

that's a good name!

you may want to radias the edges a bit more, might leave some marks. or just have really good hammer control.

that's a first, Ive never seen one with two hardy hole sizes. very smart, especially if you have two different anvils with two different sized hardy holes.

the most expensive hammer that I've bought was a 20 dollar hammer from Lowes, and it was terrible, compared to the one my dad found on the side of the rode. well, I guess that wasn't the cheapest hammer. I took a class from Matt Marti and we made a hammer and some other stuff for 100, but maybe that doesn't count because I wasn't just buying the hammer.

at least have one "manufactured" pair to start with so that you can look at the structure of the tongs and have something to go off of.

welcome Brandoncw, glad to have you. first practice with mild steel and once you get the process down start using the tool steel. also tongs are something that should not be your first project, because their is a lot to get right and a lot of things that you can mess up. you can make twist tongs, which are a bit simpler, just google it. but like MDN said, their is a lot of information on this forum, and that this question has been asked many times. one more suggestion start with stock that is long enough to hold and not use tongs.

Here is a hook I made several years ago. Not very decorative but was a workout and profitable. I started with 2.5" square and upset a section in the middle of the bar to close to 4" square so that it would maintain the 2.5" section when bent. This was done by hand lifting the bar and slamming down on a piece of 4" plate on the floor. The drawing out and punching was done on a 100lb shop built air hammer, Bending of the hook was done hot with an 8 ton hydraulic press and with a sledge. I bent the link hot on a hossfeld using the bending die shown in the photo.
what did you use it for? or was it just for fun?
