  1. It's pretty rough but it was free....and free goes a long way in my book. Is this repairable? I imagine I could learn to repair it, I have a little fabrication knowledge, but I think that's way over my head....for now. Any info would be greatly appreciated the extent of my anvil knowledge is, they're heavy, and you pound on them. Time for my silly question. I love watching videos of blacksmiths working on their anvil to watch different techniques and things. A lot of them that I see hit their work a few times then hit the anvil, is there a reason for hitting the anvil? (It's the smaller one in the first pic..also I couldn't get them to rotate sorry!)
  2. haha no no. I didn't turn it down I just haven't gone to pick it up yet. I don't turn down much free stuff. If you're handy most things can be repurposed right? I'll be picking it up in about 3 hours in fact!
  3. Is it fairly pricey to have an anvil repaired? I could pick up an anvil for free but it looks like it's been through a war or two...
  4. Thanks Frosty! I have been reading posts almost non stop for a few days now, you're right I'm hooked... haha. Next step is setting up a forge!
  5. Hello Matto I'm just north west of kearney around Ansley/Broken bow. I'm just getting started, in fact I don't even have a forge built yet, so an opportunity like that would be amazing.
  6. This is amazing, and so close to home. I'd love to see that shop, and some pros in action!
  7. Hello everyone. My name is Cole, and I'm from central Nebraska. I don't really have much metalworking experience other than welding, cutting, and grinding, but I would love to learn blacksmithing, and casting. It would be great to find someone experienced in the Nebraska area that could teach me. I have been reading as much as possible on the site and there is a ton of great info, but nothing beats being taught by a pro! Im very eager to learn, it's something I've been wanting to do for a while.
