yes that is what I was talking about. when I when to England, I asked alec steele if we could make a big horse head. I will get a pic of it.
-
no, I was refuring to his Die anvils, not the striking anvil.(wich is also mild steel)
-
yes they are made from mild steel. I have seen pictures of brian making 3D horse heads, using the angle, and also to set shoulders down.
-
looks very productive.
also, im sure everyone knows this, but forging h13 is a nightmare!
-
those are some very nice hammers!
-
those look wonderful! do you have the assistance of a striker?

coming along well! excited to see final product!

Cannot express my amount of excitement looking at those pictures! I have always loved old fashioned things, like blacksmithing, steam engines, and mechanical things, so line shafts are very cool to me! Man, you should open tours! Very happy for you to have such a great shop!

Looks really good
if I had that anvil, I would probably cut some of that horn off. For the work I do and the way I use the horn, I think it might interfere with your forging. But that's my OPINION!

I used truck axels for my first hammers, and I have heard that tractor hydraulic rods from a ram work very good, but are plated, so watch out for the fumes!
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think those small vices are fore sharpening saws too.
the thread dies in the alligator wrench are interesting to me.

Thank you very much mr. D. That is and honor!

Alec coats his handles in either canola oil or olive oil. Personally,I don't think it maters what kind of oil. Another advantage to charring a handle, it the water evaporates out, then you can replace the water with oil. That way your handles won't dry out, and the heads won't come lose. That's nice here in Alberta because in winter we have NO humidity, and my handles don't dry out because the swelling of the handle is upheld by oil not water. So if your handle soked in all the oil, in my experience, that's a good thing!

you should be able to get more that 180 for them!

oolala! that is wonderful! brilliant handle!

Ethan,
Super nice work on the hammers! Let me know when you are up for that 8 pounder!
D
yes, I will let you know! I would not want to miss out on such opportunity! I will have to do that under the press, so I must make tooling first.
