And I spent all day working on the forge again, boy am I slow . and I made a stand for another vice that is easier to move then the bench mounted one . 

Yes indeed , it was great to meet everyone and sit and talk with people about smiting, and all thing related . I seldom find anyone that has an interest in trying to make things and be creative .

Well the blower showed up, it was locked up but I removed the fan cover and the gear box cover lubed it up and now it works freely . I dont know how they mount these, I see no mounting holes . So I fabricated a plate to fit between the gearbox and the blower housing it should work . I'll clean this baby up and paint it, I am getting closer , maybe by this weekend ??

That forge is one of yours , you posted it on this site on the forge page , That chimney is beautiful I don't know if it works well but I sure like the shape of it . Would you like to sell the chimney ? or at lest let me borrow it so I can try to copy it.

And by the way I found out the blower has a 2" outlet ,so no need to measure yours, thanks anyway .  

Come to think of it , an old garden hose would work well to cover the rebar .

Good point about the grey electrical conduit it has a thinner wall and should flex easy , to add to that, I would use # 3 rebar it has a lot of flex .

How about 1/2 round welded to the bows then some pipe that the 1/2 will fit into , weld some flat to the pipe drill to holes and bolt it to the wagon . then drill a hole through the pipe and the round stock add a cotter pin and your done .

Maybe someone can help me out . I ordered a  champion hand crank blower , but it may take a while to get here and I am trying to build a forge I need to know what size  hose would fit on the blower out put ? 2 inch maybe 3 inch

Well got off work , and went straight to the shop made some progress on the  forge . But tomorrows another  day I'm beat .

So I want to get my forge done , I drive over to lowe's  looking for some 2" pipe , you know 2 10's a 12 inch peace a 2" t pipe cap and a flange to make a brake drum forge . Well lowes only has up to 1 1/2 ok  I go to home depot same thing they also only go up to 1 1/2 . so I go to small mom & pop mead hard ware they have everything I need but it's galvo ' oh well it will work , I would preferred black pipe 65.00 bucks later I have it all . get it home and start put it all together so far so good .

And I have been busy cleaning up the anvil mount and putting some wheels on it till I can find a place  to mount it . still more work to do on the anvil .

And I am starting on my next forge. I think I will make my own fire pot I made it out of paper to see if I will like it , Maybe ?? 8x7 1/4 x 2 1/2  deep , 3/8 plate , I may need it a little deeper , and I found a piece of plate on the side of the shop to make a table out of .  

And I will also be more careful flipping up my welding helmet with a hot welding rod in my hand , I stuck that hot sucker right in my ear . I am lucky I did not poke out my ear drum but it felt like I did .    

Well I wont try to heat the coil springs on my 63 riviera just to lower it a little . LOL live and learn . Once you heat them up that baby drops right on the bump stops a jack stand may have worked . heck that was 30 years ago the right way is take them off and cut one coil at a time .

If I understand this right 1ton is about 5, 55 gallon drums full , dose that sound about right .

The anvil is fine. You may just want to dress the edges with a grinder to smooth them up. Different radiuses are nice when bending some items.

Coal is available in Utah just outside of StGeorge. Last I checked it was $130 a ton. I am just about out, so I may grab a bucket of it to try out. I haven't gotten around to contacting SUFCO for an analysis.

Did you find the anvil, and mandrel locally?

What part of the valley are you in?

thanks for the reply , 130 for a ton sounds great, I just payed 100 for two 50 pound bags I am not real familiar with the different types but for the price I am sure it is more for heating then blacksmithing but I would try it for that price . that would be larger pieces unwashed ? . Saint George is not to far, I would run up their with the trailer and get some when I have used what I have . Do you have an address / phone number for the place ? 

   Yes , I picked those up from some friends , I worked with in the steel industries for 8 years when the town was booming steel engineers and regional steel, made some good friends, I gave a 10 hp 3 PH 22 inch chop saw away to some friends  back in the day so he could start his own  businesses when I called around looking for an anvil he said I owe you come and get it so I loaded it up and he gave me the mandrel as well , good friends are priceless . that was one of the few times I helped someone out and it payed off in the long run .

 I am in the older part of town collage park east side . I would get excommunicated if I lived in summerland they don't like pack rats like me, that like to work on stuff . LOL

That anvil is a winner!! 

so would you say its ok and I am being to picky, leave it alone and beat on it like a rental car . LOL

​the anvil has a fairly straight bed but has some chips on the edge . I was thinking of preheating it then some 7018 and see if I can get a machine shop to  resurface it, here are some pictures am I just being to picky  

Try calling farriers about coal, if the one you call doesn't know, s/he'll know someone who does. Farrier suppliers often carry coal but maybe not at the best prices.

Rebuilding the blower might be as simple as getting the rat and hornet's nests and rocks all the kids in the past 60 years have dropped in it cleaned out. Sometimes just taking a hose or pressure washer to it's innards will do the trick. Be careful breaking the bolts loose, it's cast iron and brittle. Heat can be your friend as are penetrants. Just don't force it.

I have not received the blower yet it is on the way . after working on old packards with my dad rusty old cast iron is a way if life , its coming from back east as long as it didn't sit in a wheelbarrow full of water I hope it will be ok I understand these things last forever. He said it was in his dads shop for the last 30 years , I have my fingers crossed LOL   

How about building or buying a gas forge?

I have been looking into that , I have gas plumed to the shop now , so that's not to hard to buy into the speed and easiness of having gas at hand .
