    Hyd press help

I have a similar frame as yours,I dont have the cylinder and pump like you,but my main point here is I believe you will need to consider if you want to squeeze hot steel with this and not press bearings and straighten shafts, you will need guides for whatever union that you will fit into the end/ram of your cylinder, and like my frame I will be lessening the width of it being i wont need the extra side room for billets. The thinning will also stiffen the whole deal, but Im no scientist.Surplus center has technical info that can help with matching conponants, and sells them ,I dont know how to put a link up
  2. I recently got a 194# soderfors anvil, and cant be happier with most of it.I was chipping and scraping paint off from the last owner who had it as a lawn ornament for 10 years,I appreciate the thick coat of rust oleum because otherwise it might not have held up so well to mother nature.I was scraping the bottom and discovered a pea sized hole that I can poke an 8 inch wire up inside and it seems to go from near one side of the base toward the center.I was able to flip it over today and fill it with almost a cup of water, the base sits on the outer most of each side and doesn't wobble ,but has an arch of free space between where it makes contact.I cant help but think that Soderfors did not set out to make a 194 # anvil and I want to fill the hole with lead, and maybe the gap in the middle too while Im at it.What would you do?The anvil bounces a bearing from 10 inches back to 9.5 + and doesn't seem to be disfunctional in any way,but I know its there and wanted to hear suggestions. The pea hole is in the water the base has drilled holes on each end and was bolted down previously. The staightedgeis propped over the gap and is not touching the water
  3. Lou, Give yourself multiple modicum more credit on your estimation of your average! Great stuff, Mike J
  4. The weight of the wire is the "breaking" weight isn't it? can you estimate how many blades can be made from that?
  5. Hi guys, I have been normalizing 10xx carbon steels and 5160 that I have not yet finished forging because of time constraints.I take it to non mag and cycle lower 2 more times.I know this the best thing to do with it , is it OK put it back into gas forge and shut it off to let it slow cool directly after hammering on it.I will need to start forge another time and heat up and hammer the rest of the way later. Thanks Mike
