Made my first knife!
I spent the first part of this week in North Carolina at Hoffman Blacksmithing learning how to make knives. It was a lot more work than I was expecting but I had a great time. Liam Hoffman makes some really nice knives and I am glad I was able to learn from him. It is nessmuk inspired. The handle is Brazilian cherry scales with copper pins. The blade is 1095 hi-carbon steel etched and hand sanded to 1000 grit with a hamon.

I am going to take you up on that. Thinks are a bit crazy right now with the holidays coming up so it may be after the new year.

Just picked up my first anvil!
Finished my introduction to blacksmith class at Kaviar Forge in Louisville last weekend and earlier today I picked up a Cliff Carroll 125lbs off of Craigslist. Should work well for banging on some metal on the weekends. Guy threw in the stand but I am going to build something more substantial. Next on the list is a good forge and vise and then I'll be in business.

Hello from a newbie in Kentucky.
Hi everyone. My name is Chase and I live in the Louisville, Ky area. I am 31 and about as new as new gets to blacksmithing. After watching YouTube videos for months I started a begineers class at Kaviar Forge this past Saturday. Below is a picture of the result. It is simple and crude but I have a sense of pride about that thing that I can not really explain. I am definitely hooked and can't wait to learn more. I would love to connect with anyone in the area willing to share their time and wisdom and look forward to doing a lot of reading on the forum. Thanks.
