Well everybody, spent the morning yesterday with Frosty! Turns out we did kinda know each other, we had spent time at the same cafe for a few years, just on different sides if the central partition! Frosty is as friendly in person as he is on the web site! A really nice guy!/Selden

Hi ALL,
Was unsure where to put this, but for those of you that I usually chat with, I just wanted to say that I am going to be gone from here untill the 16th or so of next month! Myself and my Eldest step-son are flying to Alaska, so I can have surgery on my left eye, and have some other medical problems taken care of. I hope to be able to spend a day or two with Frosty and some of our Alaskan Brother(and Sister Smiths) I am going to contact Frosty on Tuesday or Wednsday of this coming week and try to arrainge a time to be able to go out to his Shop in Meadow Lakes and visit!! You all have a safe time at all you do, and I will see you all when I get back!! Selden Jones Tribal Forge -

Depends, on which forge I am using! Gas forge, I use a heat resistant glove on my holding hand, coal, i usually don't wear a glove at all, don't wear a glove on my hammer hand as I end up with a lose of hammer control(And Blisters!!!)

i found that if the warp, sometimes it is caused by forging to much on one side, i had a cable blank that I forged, and it was looking good, right up till i hardened it, then it bent almost in a "U" my son told me he watched for a bit and i forged more on one side than the other! But he was afraid to tell me! I told him, if I mess up forging like that again to tell me so I can correct it!

Hi, if every Alaskan had Ivory in his back yard, I'd be a rich man right now! Ivory is getting a little harder to come by, and it helps if ya know who to talk too! and so far it seems that I have not managed to talk to the right people!!!

Frosty, i can tell you, after being down to David's little shop, he has a better coal forge than the one I used to have! it works well and heats metal fast/Selden

Depends on how many items i am going to do! i try to take about 100' each od 1/2" , 3/8", 5/16", 1/4" and 3/16" so i can do a veriaty of items, i try to have it all in either 10' or 12' lengths, cause it never fails, someone will want a plant stand or a lantern stand longer than what i have made/Selden

My wife and I had a friend (so-called anyway) over for a few days before we went to a Pow-wow, and he finished about 30 Flutes, and used linseed oil to do the final finish on them, well they left after we did, and when we got home about 4 hours later, we had this really nice looking burn in our spare bedroom floor! It burned through the carpet the padding, and a 1/4" into the subflooring, it burst into flames just as I threw the pile of rags into the yard!! Worse, the jerk told everyone it was just a little scorch mark on the floor, so I took a picture and sent it via e-mail to all the ones who wrote me and told me what he was saying!! He never helped pay for the damage. Some Friend huh?
Horizontal bandsaw vs. power hacksaw
in Saws, bandsaws, hack saws, etc
Posted
Hi Guys,
I use both a horizontal and a power hack saw, and can not talk them both up enough, my horizontal has an auto-shut-off switch so I can hook a peice up, start the saw and walk away and do something else! never had a burn out motor, but the blade will jump track once in awhile, so have to keep an eye on it!
