  1. Biggundoctor - give me a call! I lost your number when I got a new phone last year. I'm refocusing to get something for all of us up and running. Start small and work my way up to the endgame Incidentally, I went over to Vegas Forge not too long ago and their facility is pretty amazing. I was kinda just standing around with my mouth open looking at all the pretty equipment they have lol.
  2. Update on the aluminum: I made the furnace too well. It melted my crucible! I had no idea it would get that hot with regular bbq coals from the store. This weekend works for me. I like big dogs but I don't think they'll let us forge there. Maybe we can meet there and talk about what we could do or what projects we have yet to finish, and then set up some future get togethers to get them done! I still have to make a cleaver and a dagger for my friends.
  3. I was just talking with my friends and I have been seriously missing the anvil. I signed on to reach out to you guys to see if we could get together and make some things! I just made a small foundry that I'll be using for aluminum, so I'll be casting some pieces soon. Once I get a few things made using this foam method I saw on youtube (I've only casted bronze a couple times the real way), you guys are more than welcome to come make some stuff. I'm also going to be rebuilding my forge and setting up my anvil soon Spruce I'll be stopping by soon. I've been meaning to go and check out your shop, but work has been kicking my ass! Also, welcome kinghotpants! meancoyote come hang out in my boat; We need to be more social with each other! It's not like there's a hundred of us everywhere.
  4. It was great to finally meet you guys! I look forward to the future of our community. Also, I'm horrible with names. I'd like to get in contact with the guy that was sitting next to me. We both wear glasses and were close to the entrance of the silo. My number is 808-635-7453, actual name is Dustin. Feel free to reach out anytime, any of you!
  5. So despite the snowstorms in Oklahoma and Missouri, I have arrived in Las Vegas. If anyone wants to hang out, I'm available all week. I look forward to meeting you guys!
  6. I'll be staying up by Sahara and Durango at my buddy's house until I find a room to rent. I get in next week, around Dec. 9th or 10th. My boss and I are driving down from Chicago. I'm bringing my hammer, some flux, a small bottle of oil, some stones and files, and a few pieces of metal with me. Also Happy the Iron Nomad is hilarious. Sounds like a confused dwarf.
  7. Hello everyone! My name is Dustin and I'll be heading to Las Vegas again later this month for work. I've been taking blacksmithing classes in Chicago for about a year now and would like to hang out with some fellow smiths while I'm in Vegas. I'll be around until at least March. Maybe longer. Until now, I've just done knives. Basic hammer work, some woodwork for the handles, and grinding.... lots and lots of grinding. Nothing fancy. Our shop consisted of a forge, an anvil, a belt sander, and a drill press. I haven't worked with any hardware that would make things really easy. Ultimately, I'd like to take this from a hobby into something I can make a living from. The more I could learn and work out there, the better. Any advice you guys could give me on where to go and who to learn from would be greatly appreciated!
