  1. really happy with this find, saw it for sale last night ( the first day ) and the ad had 30+ views already, lucky for me is was right here in my hometown and picked it up this morning.....the seller just had it listed as a 100lb anvil for sale......was pretty sure it was a Peter Wright Farriers anvil but could not see any markings in the add picture......took a chance and bought over the phone $1.25 LB

picked it up today , gave it a a quick scrub and the stamping began to surface........ :D

  2. (re- quote ''If we use sub standard materials, we should expect to get poor results'')

O1 is not sub standard knife steel Lodestone so don't let that comment bother you any, in fact many world renowned makers still to this day claim it to be 'one' of the best but ironically one of the cheapest steel stock to purchase, it remains one of my faves, edge retention and razor sharpness can be easily obtained and heat treating is among the easiest of steels........I prefer a stone wash forced patina myself but the variety of patina results and patterns are endless...........your knife looks great congrats on a fine job !!

  3. was a great weekend all around......

went to spend the weekend with family in Seattle and had arranged to meet up with a fella that had this 70LB Hay Budden for sale.....(great guy)

really pleased with the anvil, in superb condition all around, excellent rebound and has seen minimal use at best........

when I made it back to my sisters with my new purchase my bro in law greeted me with a handshake and a birthday bag...........in it was 'Anvils in America'

needless to say a great weekend all around !!

  4. alright I've been through the site search engine..............

I've come across a 150lb Hercules wrought by Hay Budden (apparently) that may be of interest

information is limited on the internet at best other than a friend of mine saying it was a "hardware line" of anvil production from HB.....

is there anywhere else to find some info or does anyone here have any insight on them ?

good bad ugly info , anything is appreciated , thanks

  5. Over the years I have had people come to my shop with the same request. I run a small shop and do all the work myself. What I have done for them is invite them over to watch me work and I will teach them as I go. I currently have a young man who comes buy on his day off and spends the day working with me. He helps me in exchange for the knowledge I can give him.

right on , a response I believe the original poster was looking for and good on ya HW for helping out the young'en's

  6. Any luck finding any markings on the side facing you when the horn is to the right?

on the right side (horn pointing to the right)............after much intense elbow gease I can make out "warranted"

underneath the 32lbs stamp on the the left side, I believe the letters to be W O O (part of attWOOd)

would this possibly make it an Attwood Stourbridge ?
