Supplier will be an eye opener. I couldn't believe how much more steel I got for the same price my first time. Now, the only thing I occasionally buy from big box stores, is angle iron, if I only need a little bit of it. Even then, a steel supplier will have better deals, but you have to buy full lengths most of the time. If I recall correctly, for the price I paid on a 3 foot pieces from HD or Lowes, I picked up a 20' piece at a supplier for close to if not the same price.

That's a good idea glenn, I've found that even the factory handles are too skinny when the bucket is full.

jlpservicesinc - Thank you, this is my third or fourth attempt. An issue I regularly encountered, were stress cracks and or cold shuts right where I'd shoulder down. This time around I didn't risk it getting too cold, and paid more attention. The hammer selection also played a huge role for me, Up until now, I only ever had hammers that were either too heavy or too light. Recently picked up a delightful 2lb crosspein from Brent Bailey that made the job much easier. No immediate plans for the finial, It was just something I got side tracked on rather than making hooks. An octoball shall be next. Maybe it would be good for a small fire poker or something?

No kidding, I went to forge hooks, and ended up with a finial. My first that didnt develop a cold shut.

Haha thank you, yes working up to a hammer. I sit at a desk with a trouble window, so when its windy, paperwork starts flying. This works quite well. Gracias, I designed the logo, and buckeye engraving made the stamp.

Nice work peeps! Das, can't wait to see how these turn out. I've been trying to catch up on stock removal knives, and haven't been able to forge the last few weeks. Really dying to, especially after seeing everyone's work.

Thank you, yes bandsaw for initial cuts. I only have a portaband, so it took me about 20 minutes for 5 cuts. Regretted it immediately upon starting the first cut. The foredome weighs probably 7lbs max, but that mount could probably could 100+ of bolted securely enough. I've only been absent here a few days, and missed lots of nice stuff. Great work everyone.

Yeah, I'm a little paranoid about having it just sit in the back yard. Luckily I haven't had the immediate need for it yet.

Yeah, I've been in the same spot. I had some sand blasted, and tried a wax finish, but it didn't take a finish I liked. Are you using a light acid?

Thanks Das, I didn't get to finish the opener, but wanted to try out the tools first. Awesome stuff, are the lag bolts pre-stripped? Snowman is fun also, I like that you always do something expressive with arms.

Thanks everyone. Some killer stuff going on too, love the minatures. Al, thank you. The copper and brass accents is not my idea, it's something I've seen Faram Forge doing and loved it. With his permission I gave it a go, and really enjoy the contrast as well. Jakob has a good eye.
