  1. I guess so to a certain extent, You get your 4th class first and work your way up people who are 1st class run powerplants and dams and such many others work in mills, chemical plants, and food factorys I figured I could work and still have lots of energy to forge afterwork untill i manage to make enough money that blacksmithing puts food on the table
  2. I will be buying some off center products in the near future I am sure it will be worth waiting for
  3. you could always build one
  4. an old machinest I work with told this is how they quenched all kinds of parts, in an electromagnetic chamber of some sorts it probley wont work for everything and probley wouldnt get as hard either but its free magnet anyways
  5. I have a few sheetmetal pattern books and have even taken it at bcit, but this book is by far superior to anything I have seen and you dont have to pay 250 dollars or look for it for years, its free on the internet with ad's all around it The New Metal Worker Pattern Book | by George Watson Kittredge the second book has some interesting things as well but less pictures at the bottom you can return to the table of cont Semicircular Stairs
  6. The cost of eduation is only 1000 dollars if i get the job first i can do all the schooling on the computer, this decribes what it is, BCIT : : Power Engineering (General Program): Full-time, Certificate of Trades Training usually there is lots of work abroad for power engineers and at home since we have huge electrical dams and more being built as we speak, the pay is excellent as you move up it seems like its better to have than a ticket in welding or machining or sheetmetal
  7. if you were heat treating knives or tools a magnet can be used as a quenching block instead of a liquid
  8. I wondered why he stopped posting, Hopefully frosty is going to be alright, I miss his posts
  9. Anyone on here a power engineer? do you like doing it, I am thinking of going to school for it currently I am a metalworker I was getting my sheet metal ticket, but it seems as soon as your not in the union they want to cut your wage in half, I applyed for a job doing tig welding for the pharm industry thinking it was going to be a reasonable wage and they want to pay 15 dollars an hour for this! a warehouse job where I would do very little pays 14 dollars per hour and takes no skill nor effort. the average house is worth 500000 in the vancouver area 15 dollars per hour is below the poverty line because of the cost of living. I am thinking getting cert'd as power engineer is going to help me and teach me some cool things not to mention get me bringing home some big pieces of metal :)
  10. Yeah I made sure I did that John lol Looks good dale I am going to do mine somewhat similarly I wont know what that is untill i do it
  11. yeah they are all the same pretty much dale I cant wait to use this thing I was impressed at the size of the cylinder about 8 inches of fury, I still need to build a base I think I am going to side mount the motor on the base, the belt shroud may not work like that though but I really dont want to mount the motor to the floor or really have to make a big extension so the base is shaped like an L but i will figure it out one way or another. anyways its time to start forging for me, later on i have to go for a physical
  12. :) for those would like to see whats inside as you can see some of the casting is pretty rough and the top of the cylinder has a casting mark but its past its movement so it doesnt matter there were drill shavings chunks of metal inside from casting but since its a dry sump it probley wouldnt have ever done anything none the less i cleaned it all out and loctite'd all the bolts and such i need to find one small metric grease zerk because it was basicly missing it I found half of it in the sump and the 45 degree stripped but attached, Other than that the quality is pretty good its just ugly,
  13. Hopefully mark produces more books and I hope they make him some money for retirement too I have vol 1 and am going to buy volume 2 when i have some extra money,
  14. yeah victoria isnt as bad as saskatchewan that is for sure lol I cant wait to get it set up my problem is i need to build a base and find a new shop to work out of
  15. Thanks Guys, excellent support from people who didnt make a dime off of me, I will Pm john but for now I have to run I have 2 job interviews and if i get neither job i am going to Victoria to restore all the cornice work on the hudson's bay company in the downtown core its only 8 story's up and they want me to restore probley 1000 tin spindles which split in the corners after 100 years the only thing that really sucks is that i would be there all winter, alone high in the sky in the wind and snow and rain so i am hoping these other guys hire me for stainless fabrication so i can stay inside this winter lol
  16. So this is Csa approved it doesnt have the faceshield that osha requires Should i assume my power hammer is like anything reciprocating, in the fact that when i put oil into it i should let it break in and drain the oil after 100 hours or something? the manual really sucks to be honest its mostly jibberish, anyang says to use 60wt oil which the closest to that that I know of would be gear oil for a rear end I will probley use synthetic after it breaks it hoping to get the maximum life out of it
  17. Haha yeah they have moose on them or "meece" as we call them in canada ;)
  18. I sent the deposit money in june, but it arrived and all is well Now that i think about it I should have probley bought the base with it because it costs close to the same as buying the steel and fabricating it I am hoping the steel finds me lol I noticed the hammer has a brass nipple near the bottom is this a breather? I am going to read the instruction manual and see where to add the oil and such haha This is the most expensive investment I have ever made But I know the knowledge I will gain from having the ability to use it whenever I want will pay off in the long run.
  19. Very impressive, I like your style, obviously you have a good skill set and creative mind
  20. I have all my papers tomorrow my buddy with the crane truck is picking her up I just narrowly avoided the storage fees ;)
  21. looks consistant, I was going to ask how you did it but I reviewed your blueprints on twists instead Makes me wish someone would strike for me but luckly my hammer is here so hopefully i can get it setup and start playing with more idea's
  22. even inside you anvil will rust if you dont use it it only takes 2 weeks if you live somewhere with humidity like me
  23. Thanks George, those were some of my first clips I was proud of myself for the fact I didnt use the torch at all Although there was some swearing I also made this for my brother for his birthday I was in a scroll work mode for awhile
